"Doors" and prizes!

HI everyone! I'm just sending out my first reminder to those of you who have signed up for the "Doors of Welcome" for October 15th. WHOO HOOOO!!!! We have 38 lovely participants so far - but keep spreading the word - the more the merrier!

So, I've  decided to (hopefully) stir up some inspiration for you. Here we go!

Just because it's called "Doors" doesn't necessarily mean your front door. It could be a door to an outhouse - who cares! Just dress it up!!! And it can be either Autumn or Halloween. Whichever you like.

Here is just a small sampling of some of the things you can use on your Autumn "door".

You don't necessarily have to hang one of these.

Or drape any of this.

Or even have any of these, carved or not.

Flowers are always nice.

So are fall leaves . . . .

So is a sign.

Got any burlap? It's amazing what you can do with an old burlap bag or fresh straw!

How about some burlap ribbon?

Wildlife is always nice - this guy was my Moms. He makes me GRIN!

Feathered variety is good too.

Make a scarecrow!
Tie up some cornstalks with a bow!
How about dried grasses? or hay or straw.

Course you always add just a little Halloween . . .

You could always go to Target!

Or a little boutique you see . . .

Do you get any Trick or Treaters?
Are you going to answer the door wearing one of these?

We get anywhere between 140 and 160 kids. Yes, I count them - always have. My Mom did, and - I dunno - I just do it too! At least I know how much candy to buy.  One year at our old house, I ran out of candy and it was still so early, ran down and grabbed a bag from my friend down the street - went through that too and ended up giving away DIMES! My husband was finishing up with taking the kids out and he always stopped and talked to the other parents along the way. As he got closer to our house he heard some talking about "the lady giving out money - how cool was that?" Yeah, he should've known it would be me. Sigh. Seems like yesterday. Every kid on the street was a ninja turtle.

But at least after all these years I also know to never, EVER buy Tootsie Rolls, because they won't make it into the goodie bowl. I've also learned to shut off the light at 8:15 cause that's when they start being bussed in. Can you believe that? (Sorry - that has always bugged me here at this house.)

I'll have some Halloween ideas to post this weekend.

OK. Did I mention last Friday was a pretty awesome day for me? Like - I WON TWO GIVEAWAYS!!
I was doing the happy dance for quite a while! I had just finished watching Cindy from Applestone Cottage receive her giveaway from me, and then I go and win TWO!
So my first prize came in the mail today!  It is from Manuella from The Pleasures of Homemaking.

Boy it is fun to get things in the mail.

And she had it wrapped up so pretty, with a little card.

"Autumn" by Susan Branch.

With some YUMMY sounding recipes and some great decorating ideas.

Of course I poured myself a glass of wine and sat down and proceeded to read the entire thing.
Sigh.  What a good time. That was too fun.

Thank you Manuella. I just love it!!!!

Haven't received the other one yet. I'll let you know when I get it!

Have a good FIRST DAY OF OCTOBER everyone! WHOO HOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm still debating about the I have it in me to put out more than the mums that are there now?

Congrats on your win-how fun! I'm going to look for that book because I read about it on another blog today and she was raving about it too.

Karen!!! Oh my I did forget about the doors of welcome party but I will take new pics and be here ready to go for sure on the 15th! Thanks for hosting such a great meme idea for us

Your last name is DeCapite? That is a neat coincidence. Our really good military friends have the same last name too. It's so unusual. Too funny!

Many Blessings and Happy Fall!
