First time!

After a little persuasion,
has convinced me to join in
with her link party called
"Celebrate Your Creative Spirit".
Hop over and check out the amazing pieces
these fabulous women have created. Sigh.
Since I haven't been able to do much exercise
(BTW I have an appt. with a Podiatrist on Monday!)
I find myself sitting in my studio . . . .thinking.
Playing. Experimenting.
Here is what I have created.
Just for me.
Not for a swap. Not for a gift.
Just for me :)
I've been working on it in the evenings after work.
I've been trying to capture my summer - so far.
I am not a summer person AT ALL!
It's been nice and cool here in So Cal
and for the first time,
I've spent time at the beach.
It was so nice. It was unexpected.
A jumble of shells and pretty sea blue beads that
I've recently accumulated through a bead swap.
A gorgeous vintage piece and
FABULOUS vintage lace. Sigh.
It took a lot for me to use these pieces.
Remember - I have a tendency to HOARD!
And this pretty lady.
I wonder what she is thinking.
I could've lived in this era very easily.
More shells, beads and a vintage earring.
All laying on hand dyed burlap I've placed on to
the back of an 11" x 14" canvas.
And because she's been on my mind a lot lately
 - a teal ribbon for my Mom.
It's a little bright - it looks kind of funny.
It doesn't really go.
But oh well. It means so much to me.
And that's what this is all about. Me.
OK Cindy - thanks for the encouragement.
I'm sorry I am so late to the party - but . . .
better late than never!

I'm looking forward to drawing a name for my giveaway!
It's still not too late to join in!
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

I'm glad to see you make something for yourself sometimes. It's great to give but every once in a while you should think about yourself and create only for the fun of it. It's a lovely piece of beauty you made!

Karen your piece is beautiful! The ribbon to honor your mom made me tear up. It's a lovely piece, and the fact that it's about "you" makes it more so. ( BTW I am not a Summer person either!) Hope you are better soon!

Hi Karen~
We just cooled off at the California coast too. Isn't the desert the worst this year? Like you, it was an unexpected pleasure to find myself at the coast. Sleeping with the windows wide open at night. What are we doing in the desert? Amy

Gorgeous Karen, and the blue ribbon actually goes perfect with the sea theme!! Isn't it crazy how we always create things for others or to sell and don't for ourself? Thank you for the reminder :)

This LO is absolutely breath taking...I love it! We all need to create things for ourselves every now and then! We deserve that. I'm glad you made this for you and also that you were able to enjoy yourself at the beach. I too am not a summer person at all. I much rather it be winter or Fall all year round. I live where there is wayyyy to much humidity and that just stinks in this summer time heat! I hope you are able to create more things for just YOU more often because you certainly deserve it. We all do!

Hi Karen,
Ooooh! This is just stunning! I am so glad that I stopped by, because I really adore your beautiful beachy creation! The died burlap is so neat, I've never seen that done. And the flower and shells, and all of the other wonderful elements you added are just gorgeous and so very creative!

Heartbreakingly Beautiful, Karen! You will treasure this item more & more as the years pass & the memories start to fade. (ask me how I know this. ~insert rolled eyes~)

You've captured a moment in time so perfectly & I hope it will bring you pleasure time & again to look at it & remember this summer...WHEN YOU GOT TO GO SHOPPING WITH MARTY & CEEKAY!!!!!

Good Morning Sunshine!!!!

I read this post and it made me so happy.

Happy because you made this for YOU. It's nice to hear that you took some time for yourself and let that creativity flow again without being all rushed with a swap or a deadline. Didn't it feel great?

And yes...everything should be about YOU and I'm so happy your Mom is a piece of it too :))) I can just imagine it sitting on an easel, placed somewhere where you look at it often.

Hoping you are having a restful weekend, love ya!

Karen, so beautiful and serene. Love the lady at the beach. A picture can say a thousand words and that one does. Good job.

CHERI said...

Your creation is lovely! I envy you for two reasons: the cool weather you've had & time spent at the beach. I've had neither this summer. I used to like summertime but after this year's sweltering heat I am not a summer fan any longer! I am identifying with you on your foot right now. On Thurs. I fell down the last 3 or 4 stairs in our house...twisted my foot and pulled some tendons (or whatever is in there). It's a bummer but could have been so much worse! Keep do lovely work!
